WHAT IS AYURVEDA?

Ayurveda is a word from Sanskrit meaning “Ayur” (life) and “Veda” (knowledge or wisdom),  translating to “The Knowledge of Life”. Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest forms of medicine. It originated more than 5,000 years ago from India. Ayurveda is a holistic approach to medicine, taking into account the totality of the body through mind, body and spirit.  It is focused on disease prevention, whereas most Western medicine is focused on treating the body post-disease, which is ineffective and unsustainable. The Ayurvedic approach treats with herbs, diet, meditation, breathing, exercise, oil treatments specific to your body, and much more. Ayurveda mostly focuses on health and wellness, prevention, and treatment of illnesses through lifestyle shifts. Ayurveda prescribes 3 different types of energies, or doshas, that everyone has different amounts of in their body, hence why everyone’s health is much different. If these forces are in balance with each other in the body, there will not be illness. However, when you become imbalanced, this is when disease tends to set into your body. Ayurveda is a great way to complement your health care and improve your lifestyle by bringing balance internally and externally.
